What is SMART?

SMART East Africa is the new mobile network for New Africa. We aim to be a quality service provider that improves peoples’ quality of life as one network across Burundi, Tanzania and Uganda.

Where does SMART operate?

We operate in Burundi, Tanzania and Uganda.

Where can I find SMART coverage?

We are working to provide SMART coverage country-wide. If you are in an area where you cannot find coverage, let us know on 0798 100 100 or care@smart.co.tz and we will advise you on how to find our coverage.

How do I activate my SIM card?

Please call customer care on 0798 100 100. You will need to provide your SMART number for immediate activation.

How do I check my airtime balance?

To check your airtime balance, dial *102# .

How do I transfer airtime?

You can transfer airtime by dialing *141*amount* mobile number*0000#.
Eg: *141* 2000 * 0798780780*0000#, then press SEND or OK

How do I check a text message (SMS)?

Your phone should have one main menu. On that main menu, find the “messages” icon and click it. Messages that are highlighted (eg: closed envelope or bolded text) are new messages. If you click on those you will be able to read your new messages.

How do I delete a text message (SMS)?

When you have opened a message, find the menu icon. One of the options on the menu will be to delete the message. You may have to confirm that you want to delete it. Once confirmed, the message will be deleted.

What is the SMART APN for data?

APN stands for Access Point Name. It is the gateway for you between our network and the Internet. To access our data services, ensure that your phone settings have name: “smart”, and APN: “internet”.

How do I build a bundle?

Dial *149*00#, select 2 for SMATIKA, then use the menu options to choose your duration, service and price point.

What are the rates to make local or international calls?
